| Pros | free (community edition) for a single team of upto 10 users, drag & drop product backlog to plan iterations, online collaboration (skype, IM programs), custom reports, task board available through agilecommons, MS project compatibility and a very well organized dashboard. Integration with popular IDEs (e.g. eclipse), requirements/ test/ defect /version management programs, Multi-team management with resource levelling and capacity planning |
| Cons | trial doesn’t start immediately after sign up |
| Conclusion | With Agile, time is of prime essence and you need a firm grip on status. Rally scores here with a dashboard that provides the real-time status (including burn-down charts and iteration flow charts) in an easy-to-understand manner. Moreover, Rally integrates with various IDEs, source control / defects / tests / requirements management tools and the user interface is very intuitive. Test results, defects and stories are all linked together. Iteration planning (together with drag & drop feature for product backlog), story creation, task scheduling and resource balancing – just make it easier for Agile projects. With so much functionality and ease of use, you could easily be awe-struck. However, it is strange why the access to trial version is not provided immediately after sign-up. So, if you are looking for a Agile tool that has everything built into it and is easy to use, Rally could be a good bet. |
| Pros |
- Scalable solution, from small projects to large programs - Offers strong support for SCRUM teams - Good user guidance through varied tabular and personal views - Offers many possibilities for integration - Established for many years |
| Cons |
- Very much tailored to Agile software projects, thereby ruling out use for many projects - Project collaboration is insufficiently supported - Not a substitute for a full-fledged PPM tool |
| Conclusion | Rally was one of the first project management tools to support Agile software development. Meanwhile, the software has been significantly expanded and may even support programs. As a full-fledged PPM tool in an organization it is too specifically geared toward Agile development, lacking important components such as portfolio management and enterprise resource management. Small teams can work with the free “Community Edition”; larger projects must obtain a commercial variant or switch to a SaaS model. |
